#432 Daniel Baker

My name is Daniel Baker. I have been racing now for five years. Besides motocross, I like to hike and snow ski. I also participate in basketball. My favorite school subject is Science. I have the highest grade point average in my Science Class. I received the highest grade during our Science Fair. I am on the A/B Honor Roll at my school. Besides motocross, I think I would like to have a career in Science. I am not sure yet what kind of job. I have learned to play the piano and it has been a great learning experience.

My favorite track other than one in Kentucky/Indiana or Ohio is Monster Mountain in Alabama. I also like Gatorback in Gainesville, FL.  But Loretta Lynn's Amateur National MX Track in Hurricane Mills, TN is my favorite track of all. Ricky Carmichael is the pro rider that I like the best.  Darren Durham is my favorite amateur riders.

My goals for 2008 are to place in the top 10 at an amateur national and to be consistent.  I want to set an example for other young riders through my faith and sportsmanship on and off the track. This is a journey I plan to see through. My first trip to Loretta's, my podium at the 2008 Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals and my three third place finishes at the 2007 Winter Olympics in Florida are my best motocross moments to date.  Losing my radiator cap which caused me to lose the title at Loretta's in 2008 when I had the Loretta Lynn's Amateur National Championship within grasp has been the worse motocross moment so far in my brief career. But I finished 14th overall despite a 5-2-DNF. While this was disappointing I am moving forward and I am working hard to improve my position. I had been working very hard and I was consistently in the top three in all six motos at Loretta's before bad luck hit.  The best thing about being a rider is traveling and being around people I like. The hardest thing for me about being a rider is getting enough riding in during the cold weather.

As far as my training program goes, only Billy Willian, of Suspension Plus MX Training knows that. But I will tell you this cycling and push ups are my favorite exercises.

Besides my Mom and Dad, Billy Willian is the one who inspires me the most. He really cares about how I do.

One thing that I am really excited about is that I have been asked by KTM to test their 2009 KTM 65's.

wpe8.jpg (8150 bytes) Team member #43 Daniel Baker should have received the worst luck award. Baker finished 6th in the first moto of the 65 (7-11) Mod class. In the 2nd moto, he was running in 2nd at the 2 lap board when his chain derailed, so he was scored 31st. In the final moto of the class, when he came back to the gate after his hot lap, his bike was mal-functioning. Early in the moto, his clutch failed for him to DNF.   Baker finished 29th overall for the class. At this point, he was feeling pretty good because he still had the 65 (10-11) Stock class where he had a 5th in the    first moto and a 2nd in moto 2.

The final moto saw him up to second at one point with the points leader for the national title in the back of the pack. Baker then dropped to third with some distance between himself and the fourth place rider with Baker destined to win the 65 (10-11) Stock National Championship Title. But that was not the case. Steam was coming from Baker's bike. The two-lap board appeared. And on the back side of the  track, Baker's bike seized for him to DNF the moto and lose the national championship. His radiator cap had came off during the race. He finished 14th overall in the 65 (10-11) Stock class.
