My name is Alex Hunter.
I am a full time student at Western Kentucky University in Bowling
Green, KY. I have been racing for 14 years. In April 1992, my
dad took me to a local race in Bardstown, KY and signed me up. I had
only ridden a few days on my PW 50. THe three other races on
PW's that day were Shane O'Banion, Ryan and "Pooh" Sipes.
My Dad was traveling and racing all over the country so I raced wherever
he did.
I went to Loretta Lynn's on a PW 50 in 1993 and on a KX 60 in 1997.
I rode a YZ 80 in the 14-15 year old class at Loretta's in 2002
and then I rode in the "B" class on a YZ 125 that Fall.
In the Spring of 2003, I decided to move into the "A"
class. I applied and received my AMA Pro license in 2004.
I raced my first Pro Outdoor National at Kenworthy's GP in Troy, Ohio
in July, 2004. I have raced 5 Pro-Nationals in 2005 (PA, MA,
MD). My favorite Kentucky track is not very far from me, Ballance
MX, in Smith's Grove, KY. I also like Podium One in Charlestown,
IN. My two favorite national tracks are Red Bud in Buchanan,
MI and Budds Creek in Maryland.Besides motocross, I also play basketball
and run. Besides that school takes up most of my free time.
My favorite semi-pro rider is Buddy Brooks and my favorite amateur
rider is Cody Harper. |

"Broadcasting" is my favorite subject here at Western
Kentucky University. Shane O'Banion, from Campbellsville, KY, is
my roommate, so my training program is based on the "Shane
O'Banion Dorm Room Fitness Program". My best motocross moment
was making it to Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals three times, but
the highlight of those trips was at the Mid-East Regional in 2002.
I had two single digit finishes in moto 1 and 2 and was in a first
turn crash at the start of moto three. My dad said later he thought
when I crashed my chance4s of making it to Loretta's that year was
over. I was last to get up and went from 39th to 8th in moto 3 and
ended up 7th overall at the regional and made it to Loretta's.
I also rode my first GNCC at Loretta's in 2004.
It was the first every off-road event I rode (actually the first time
I ever raced in the woods). I got second and raced a stock YZF
250 with no barkbusters, no camelback and no big tank. It was
a blast! This year I raced at five AMA Outdoor Pro Nationals and qualified
for 3 out of the 5 for the Sunday program. At Steel City in Pennsylvania,
I nailed a holeshot in the last chance and stayed out front a lap
at a national event! I thought it was really cool to lead a race at
a national (even if it was last chance) in front of a huge crowd and
most of my family that was attending the race! My worst motocross
moment was breaking both legs and spending 3 months in a wheelchair
in 2000. I think the best thing about being an "A" rider
is traveling and meeting new people. But the hardest part is
being 100% dedicated. My goals for 2006 include racing select
AMA Pro Nationals, Loretta Lynn's and the Mega Series. |
